For years I have been fascinated by Charles Chaplin. I wanted to immortalize this adoration with a special beer. The black and white on the label, the bowler hat-shaped glass, the logo and the slogan refer to that time.

As a child I was always impressed by everything to do with theater and clowns. I got this interest from my grandparents. I also watched old video cassettes of Chaplin and of the 'fat and the thin' (Laurel and Hardy, eds.) with them. That mysticism really appealed to me. I also always found admirable the way in which they created a comic and magical effect with facial expressions and non-verbal communication.

On my 18th birthday, my grandparents gave me two authentic bowler hats that have been passed down for 3 generations and I eventually became an imitator of the movie star myself. In my spare time I regularly organize trips. We usually go to an amusement park or Christmas market and about three years ago we went to Arras in the north of France. To offer that little bit more, I always give people a little something extra. And then that was a beer they could drink at home. That's how the idea of brewing your own beer started to mature.

Given my admiration for the silent film, it's no surprise that I chose to place that period at the center of my beer, which will only have 'Charlie' in the name for copyright reasons. In my search for a brewery, I eventually ended up at BeerSelect from Ghent. They turned out to be the best option. Soon I came to two blond beers. The label only contains black and white, like in the silent movies. You can recognize an inverted bowler hat in the glass.

With the slogan 'Legends never die' I make the main purpose of this beer clear. I want to keep a legend alive and make history for the second time. The beer is not a one-hit wonder, but a timeless concept. That I can relive the times of my grandparents in this way is, of course, also symbolically beautiful.
