How it started

The coastal brewery started as a home brewery in Leffinge (Middelkerke). An experiment was done and many styles, colors and tastes passed through the brewing kettle and disappeared into thirsty throats. Carefully came the business spirit that had been secretly hidden for almost 15 years from under the dust. It would be really a shame to keep all those goodies to ourselves. There really had to be brewed, that became clearer and clearer. A recipe was finer and finer tuned and when looking for typical regional ingredients for my beer in the dunes of Middelkerke I suddenly saw a fluffy animal with long ears in a hole diving: the Dunekeun (West Flemish for duinkonijn) was born.

After the many successful experiments, we decided to go a step further. From June 2014 our first beer 'Dunekeun Goudblond' is also available for the rest of the world. A year later there was already a second beer: Drunkenput brown, a brown tasting beer of 8% vol. alc. Currently we brew in the 100-year-old installations of Brewery Deca in Woesten: here we can brew real craft beer. With many thanks to Nicolas who makes his beautiful installation available and gives us the full freedom for our creations! The plans for the next 'Dunekeuns and / or Drunk pits' are constantly being worked on! Mid October 2016: 'Drunkenput Tripel' and 'Dunekeun Winter' complete the four-leaf clover. It took a little longer than expected before the Tripel was finished, but it had to be good. And .... it was definitely worth the wait. A beautiful dark blond beer with an unmistakable wood test of apple wood is the result. The winter beer also saw the light of day after 6 months of ripening. After six months of embrace of beer and wood chips, the tension was great: it was a moving moment when the first bottles with the beautiful blue label of the band rolled and filled the first bin.
